Sony Clie PEG-NX70V
At first glance, you may wonder if you are even looking at a PDA. That is because the look of the Sony Clie NX70V line is very different from what most of us have come to expect from a PDA. Known as a “flip and rotate” design, you actually have two parts to this Sony Clie PDA. One is the screen area and the second is the base. The two are joined by a hinge and a swivel. This provides the user with three basic forms to work with. By opening up the unit, you reveal the large screen area, and also can see the base, with its keyboard and other option buttons that you may make use of. In this pattern, the Sony PEG-NX7OV Clie PDA looks similar to any flip top phone. The fun part is that you can also swivel the screen around to show other people something on the screen, while still controlling the keyboard. When you are done, you simply swivel the screen back into position, power down the unit, and close it. The back of the screen component makes a perfect casing for the Sony Clie PDA, all in one fell swoop.
Along the left side of the base, you will find the JogDial, back button, and the hold switch. These are all to the left of the keyboard. By the way, the keyboard is not quite your standard configuration, so it will take a little time to get used to the arrangement. However, you will find the effort rewarded when it comes time to work on documents or send out a lengthy text message.
When it comes to the screen, you will find it too be adequate, but not much more than that. The screen on the Sony Clie handheld PDA is set up for 16-bit color resolution, and you do not have to be concerned about grid lines or snow on the screen. There is also back lighting, which is a nice touch. All in all, viewing data on the screen is no problem at all. What may be less thrilling for some users has to do with the memory capacity. The cheap Sony PEG-NX70V Clie PDA comes with 16MB RAM and 16MB of flash ROM. This means that if you plan on enjoying music with your discount Sony PEG-NX70V Clie PDA, make sure you bring a memory stick along. Also, this may inhibit your ability to work with files that you need from your desktop. The lithium battery is said to work for a ten-day period under standard and normal use. Keep in mind that this standard and normal use breaks down to roughly thirty minutes a day of use and with the backlight feature turned off. Fortunately, the battery will recharge fairly quickly, usually taking no more than three to four hours. Protecting your Sony Clie PDA battery is one of the state of the art Sony PDA Clie aluminum cases; these cases are designed to keep moisture, dust and other contaminants from causing problems with your device. While the interesting look of the NX70V is a plus, some of the drawbacks as far as memory will limit its appeal somewhat. If you rely a great deal on your PDA to work remotely, this may not be the solution you were looking for.
