Palm Pilot Treo 700WX
Some people were very disappointed in the Treo 700WX. Others were hailing it as a new day for Palm. What was all the fuss about anyway? Here are a few notes on the changes that were made and how some people reacted to them. Perhaps the main change with this Palm Pilot Treo PDA and earlier Palm devices was the switch to using the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. Up until this point, Palm has used their own operating system or one that was mutually compatible with both PC’s and Mac’s. The basic idea was to combine the Pocket PC platform with a number of the Palm functions on the Smartphone, creating a device that would take advantage of the strengths of both and hopefully tossing in greater data speed to boot.
Complaints were quick to come from the Mac users. While there were add-ons to correct the issue, the fact that they had to go through the trouble of using them at all did not set well with a lot of long time Palm fans. How much this may have cost Palm in customer loyalty versus how many new fans the new and improved Palm Pilot 700wx Treo PDA won them is still to be determined.
Another change that rankled long time Palm users was the display screen on the Palm Pilot Treo handheld PDA. Most Palm devices had a nice 320 x 320 display area. The Treo 700wx, with its display area of 240 X 240 pixels, seemed to be a move backward rather than an upgrade to many Palm users. While no one will argue that the resolution is not there, the fact that the display area on this cheap Palm Pilot 700wx Treo PDA is smaller has turned off a number of people. One good thing is that the quality of the Palm Pilot PDA Treo aluminum cases has been maintained. That means the Palm Pilot Treo PDA battery will still have the same ample protection that has been the case with all Palm Pilot models. One feature that does seem to get a lot of positive feedback is the addition of the push email feature. This feature will give users status updates on received emails, calendar items, any updates to contacts and a running view of any scheduled tasks that are coming up. Along with this, the messaging capability works quite well with all the major POP3 and IMAP accounts, so you can still use that Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or AOL mail with no problem at all. They say that there is nothing quite as sure as change, and perhaps the fact that Palm has made a choice to try something a little different from past offerings simply is a sign of time marching on. Whether the public will take to the innovations of this discount Palm Pilot 700wx Treo PDA or look somewhere else for their hand held device needs remains to be seen.
