Dell Axim X3i
Dell has a reputation for breaking through the glass ceiling when it comes to PDA devices. Several years back, they were the first to produce a PDA that cost less than $200.00, and still have a slew of features that made it attractive. With the launch of the Axim X3I, the name of the game is still to turn out a quality product at a competitive price, and still keep all the tools that people have to come rely on intact. This Dell Axim PDA utilizes an Intel Xscale processor that provides an operating speed of up to 400MHz. Coupled with the 64 MB RAM, this means not only do you have plenty of storage space and plenty of power to run your software, you also have the power to make it all run quickly and efficiently. With built in Wi-fi capability, this also means less hassle connecting when you want to be connected. You may find that the Dell X3I Axim PDA looks a little more plain than the Axim models that have come out before. While this is true, it is worth noting that the unit weighs in at five ounces, which is an improvement from the more usual 6.9 ounces of Axim products. The lighter design also makes for a slimmer appearance, which means you can slide the Dell Axim handheld PDA into your pants pocket with greater ease, as well as carry it in your jacket pocket. As with most Axim models, you will find Touch Screen technology, which allows you to move around using the stylus. By the way, the stylus with this model is the flat variety, which is a favorite with Dell, but may or may not be a feature that you are crazy about.
Unlike some models, the cheap Dell X3I Axim PDA does come with a removable battery, which makes life so much easier when it needs to be replaced. Of course charging the battery is no problem and is accomplished by placing the unit into its cradle when not in use.
Speaking of the Dell Axim PDA battery, you will notice it is protected by one of the Dell PDA Axim aluminum cases. Make sure you do not attempt to open the case; you will damage the seal and possibly allow the battery to be contaminated. The operating system which keeps this entire process going may not be the latest, but it is certainly a workable one. The Windows mobile 2003 for Pocket PC is the operating system of choice and is one that quite a few models use today, even with the release of newer versions. The nice thing about this operating system is that it does not have a long history of requiring a lot of service packs to make sure it runs properly. All in all, the discount Dell X3I Axim PDA is well worth considering, if you are in the market for a newer PDA device.
